Rooney - Back to where it all began

Since he's such a big name, England's record goalscorer etc, I thought a thread was worthwhile to hear some thoughts on the move. So..
Is his move back home likely to be well received by the majority of the Goodison Park faithful? I bet there are a lot of excited young Everton fans right now.
Has he still got what it takes to perform and score goals at this level?
Will he be a regular in their starting XI?
Can he still make the world cup squad for Russia? (You know he will talk about this in his press conference)
Would you have been pleased had we signed him?
Alternatively, not giving a flying one is also fine.

Hyped up due to being English. Never World class. Wouldn't got half as many caps if he was German. Spanish. French or Italian. Apart from that he had his moments.

A very good player...never world class but that was never his fault.
Agents and the media are to blame for that.
He looks delighted...he has looked bored at Man U for the last couple of years. I think Everton might get some mileage out of him yet.

Unplayable on his day. But, sadly, not enough for me to make him genuinely world class. As good as he was at Man Utd I can only really say I think of two seasons where he could be in and around the same bracket as the top 5 or 6 in the world.
I remember one season where we was like a Rolls Royce and just purred through the whole season. But didn't have enough seasons like that for me.
Great, great player. Best we have produced since Gazza. His stats speak for themselves though. England and Man Utd's highest ever goalscorer..... A one off. Playing top level at 16. Scary at that age. Hos goal for Everton against Arsenal signalled the start of a special talent blossoming and set him on the road to greatness.
But why do I feel he is slightly disappointed with his career? Probably why for some reason the rest of us just feel he never quite lived up to his potential. And because he was actually pretty poor at major tournaments with England. And the fact that for the last two years he's just been treading water.
For me, achieved great things and had a career we would all dream of. But never considered by me as being truly world class. And should've achieved a lot more.

he's played too many games.
Footballers are like cars I suppose, it's all about the mileage. The guy has been a 1st team player since he was 16. We have players now at 20yrs old in our academy that dont even play and are considered "prospects". Rooney had been a 1st team prem player and england international for 3yrs by then.
So in context, he's been a great player, an amazing one. The best we have produced in England for decades. And unlike Gazza he actually achieved everything he could with the players and set up around him.
He just needs to stop playing so many games and maintain his fitness. Cant be doing 90 anymore, whats the point? What has he to prove?
I think as a replacement for Valencia's role in Evertons side its a pretty big upgrade. and if u have the cash why not? He cant replace lukaku, they must know that, Koemann isnt stupid. But It will be a nice managed end for him the next 3 or 4 yrs.

To be considered 'World Class' you have to be successfull for both club AND country.
He never deserved to be in the same bracket as Zidane, Maradonna, Pele and Moore due to his lacklustre displays for England.
As mentioned earlier, he hit the ground running in Euro 2004 before the injury, and could have gone on to be a revelation that year.

The problem with Rooney now is that he slows play down and that's just not the way the Premier league works anymore . Don't really see where he fits in at Everton other than in a commercial role i.e. Sell shirts , foreign interest etc

He left Everton to play for a bigger club and in that time he had good success. Now he is no longer wanted, he goes back to Everton. That is like Rio, Carrick or Lampard coming back to us inthe twilight of there careers having won most major honours. Past their prime dwindling added value.

Even though he is only 31 I think the legs are starting to go now. Understandable really given that he became a first team regular from the age of 16.
